Circular No 628

Newsletter for alumni of The Abbey School, Mt. St. Benedict, Trinidad and Tobago, W.I.

Dear Friends,
Let us start with some controversy, not everything is perfect.  Note: I had to work some paragraphs, sorry Glen.

Subject: A Reunion.
Date: Fri, 16 Aug 2013 17:00:37 +0000
Tony,
You are right about that special feeling in Trinidad,
Tony, before we were even split up by race and financial status.  Ignorance don't disappear like that.
I can safely say that is no longer the problem.
Now the only separation is brains:  do you have one or not? ha! ha!
My friend, George, tried for awhile to get some feedback to have a good reunion.  You know, the Trinidad Group had no feedback, and we were planning to do it in Trinidad.
I don't know.  We have mixed voices.
The main guy in the Trinidad association is Joe Berment McDowald.  He was from my time, we were friends.
You see Tony, some guys in Trinidad revere the Abbot, and some of us think you have to earn that respect, which the present Abbot never expressed to us.
Tony, we are bigger than all of this nonsense, so we have our Club, ha! ha!
Some things are hard to put in words.  We just want to keep the peace, so we don't rock this boat.  We cannot afford to lose any members.
Tony, some of us are happy with what we have right here.
I could not ask for more.
Thank you for Caring,
Cheers, Glen.

Thank you, Tony, for your kind words.
Of course, we would like to meet you also.
You are a strong voice to have on our side.  You have already added so much input, in the short time since you have reconnected.
I am going to Negril/Jamaica in Feb 9-15 for a wedding.
I may also go to Mexico this October.
Now Tony, I cannot say about Trinidad yet.  However, you do go to Miami, we may meet there also.
We have a lot of brothers in Florida, and a reunion will happen there for sure.
Tony, Nigel, Jon & myself, have said a lot of things that may have offended some in Trinidad, referring to the Abbot and to the official Registered Abbey School Alumni Association in Trinidad.
What do we know of them?  Maybe little, this is what we were also complaining about, no communication with us.
If it was not for Ladislao and Don, we would not even recognize this group.
Poor management and no communication with the rest of our worldly brotherhood, and most times poor manners, in answering simple questions.
I must accept the fact, this group only operates for a few brothers that reside there.
Now the funny thing is, I have so many members from Trinidad in the Club, and have never been seen at a reunion in Trinidad, ha! ha!
You tell me, what the hell is going on down there?
However, we are treated like rebels because, you may not know countless letters were sent down there on many occasions, with slow or no replies.  So, some of us may have some political issues, concerning respect and poor manners.
Now, if a donation is needed we do hear from them.  And, many of us have donated a few times.
Once the donations are collected, all communication ends.
What can I say, Tony, I am still in limbo with this.
Sorry to say these things, but I do have hope.
Cheers, My Brothers,
Glen.

Thanks, Glen,
Which is why I really hope that we get together next year and have our last cup of brandy together, before some of us can’t be there any longer to do so.
I know that its far for some people to travel, but I believe that it could act as a reward for those who worked so tirelessly to make this reuniting of the old boys on these sites a reality today,
I know that I would personally like to meet Nigel, Don, Jon, the incredible Ladislao, and you as well, Glen (if they could harness your energy it would power a small city), and all those without whom none of this would have been possible, and tell them thanks personally for making this Mt. Tabor family possible today, so long after we left the college.
I am not sure that anything like this has ever been done before.
Its unique and we should be proud of our school mates who did it..

Dear George,
This Bar is not for us old boys, I would rather wear Depends than to go to a bar like this.
However, in Asia & Russia, you never know, it might catch on, ha! ha! this is sick, Hombre.

Dear Tony,
The Last Cup of Brandy, a really great story.
Maybe if we went to war and did not have the longest time of peace, of any other generation in the past 500 yrs, we would understand why we are the chosen ones.
What we have right here right now, Our Castle, still stands on that mountain, and will stand there as long as there is a Mount Boy on this planet.
It is our only True Marker.
This Castle was built for one reason, and no other reason, to be The Abbey School.  This should hold a great meaning for every boy who ever entered her sacred doors.
It’s nothing fancy, just heart & soul, blood, sweat & tears.
Welcome to The Club Of Life.
Dear Clive,
Obama’s Speech, what yuh ass have do with it, I don't know.  However Egypt is coming back to haunt him, I don't think that email is correct, as many Muslims do hold lots of top professional jobs in the U.S, in hospitals, armed forces etc.
However, a few have done enough damage to bring along a lot of resentment and creating many stereotypes  This is harmful to the women & children, who are only subjects to their masters.
Thank you, gentlemen for sharing.  Very interesting.
Cheers, Amigos - Adios
Glen.

Hi there, Alexander and Neil,
Clive Bettencourt had given me your email addresses a while back, but I'm only now getting a chance to contact you.
I'm writing to let you know that there is in existence a little organization of Old Boys of the Abbey School, Mt. St. Benedict, which has been around for 12 years or so, headed up by Ladislao Kertesz of Venezuela.
We've had a number of reunions, big and small, in Trinidad, Venezuela, the USA, Canada and England, and we're constantly trying to get in touch with all our OB's wherever they are, to help everyone to re-connect with their past and to let their friends know what they're up to today.
We've said "Goodbye" to quite a few as well, and in fact, Ronnie Lambkin is being laid to rest only today in Nova Scotia.
This having been said, I'm simply inviting you to join the effort.
You might get a lot out of it, and enjoy the experience.
In response to this email, might I ask you, perhaps, to drop me a line with 50 words or so, to say where you are, what you're doing, and so on, and even to send me a recent photograph of yourself, to be included in our database, attached.
If you're having trouble opening the database, please let me know.
I look forward to hearing from you.

Hello, Clive.
I'm afraid that my emails to Alexander and Neil have bounced back to me.
Is there any way that you can check with them to ensure that we have their correct addresses?
This would be a big help indeed.
Thank you.
Nigel
