Dear Abbot Pereira,
Consistent with the decisions of the association, it is my pleasure to confirm our contribution in the sum of twenty eight thousand two hundred and seventeen dollars and forty cents to the cost of Fr. Cuthbert’s travel. This sum has been calculated as follows:
Business class ticket Port of Spain/London
$15,000.00
Business class ticket London/Amsterdam
$3,000.00
Upgrade Port of Spain/London, Maximine DeComarmond
$1,795.00
Spending money (equivalent of  €1000 EUR)
$8,422.40
Total ASAA contribution
$28,217.40
Made up as follows:

Money on deposit with Gabe Faria (equivalent of $3810.38US)
$24,576.95
Roger Juman (Advance Foam)
$2,000.00
ASAA cheque
$1,640.45
Total disbursements to be made
$28,217.40
Please make receipts to each respective entity: It would be helpful if you would have same delivered to my office, for further distribution.
Please forgive me for the delay in settling the matter of our contribution. It has taken longer than it should have because of illness, workload and the ready unavailability of the information which we used to calculate the costs initially. I didn’t rush to expedite it either, as you yourself indicated that there was no rush. It would have been quickly settled (possibly at a much lower cost) if the arrangements which we made several months ago, which we were led to believe were being pursued (even up to two weeks before we were informed otherwise) would have been kept to or alternatively if we were told of the possibility of other arrangements being made early enough.
I am including the text of our exchange of correspondence below, for the information of the alumni.
Yours Sincerely,
Abbey School Alumni Association
Joseph Berment-McDowald
President

Dear Joe,
All arrangements have already been made for Fr Cuthbert's travels.
We do not expect the old boys to pay for all the expenses.
That is not our intention.
Whatever you can contribute will be appreciated.
Gary Matthews told me that he is in charge of all arrangements for payments so I told him as much.
Please do not feel obliged to pay for the entire cost.
Whatever the old boys can afford will be welcome.
Payment to the airline has already been made by the monastery.
Whatever you would like to contribute will be deposited in the account of the monastery to defray expenses.
However, as I mentioned, we do not expect you to pay for the total expenses.
If the old boys would like to contribute that would be welcome.
Fr John

Dear Fr. Abbot,
I called and left a message with Helen for you this morning.
Please call me so that arrangements for paying to Fr. Cuthbert's travel can be finalised.
Is it possible that the cost could be lowered if we were to pay in US dollars directly to the airline or travel agency?
One of the old boys will only be able to contribute if he gets a vat invoice and receipt from either the airline or the travel agency: can that be arranged?
By way of explanation, we had no idea that you had been making arrangements for Fr. Cuthbert's travel yourselves.
I had a few discussions with Max on the subject and he promised to get back to me with the required documents by different dates but never did.
Many of my follow up phone calls and messages were never returned.
We Old Boys wanted to make arrangements ourselves which promised to be more economical and flexible and have the pleasure of presenting the ticket and pocket money to Fr. Cuthbert ourselves.
Possibly, we can have a photo op when we present the cheque.
Yours sincerely,
Joe

My Dear Joe,
Thank you for your blessings.
It’s been a long and winding road, but it’s good to know we are still here with our Alumni.
I recognize your great efforts in keeping things together for so long, on the home front, so many events etc. over so many years.
I hope there were more good times than bad.
You said you were ill, I pray everything is O.K now.
Joe, I know you are very busy with life.
Just want you to know, please feel free, to contact me anytime, if I can be of service in any way.
We must open up our hearts to the universe, and the universe will open up to us.
Best regards, take care my brother,
Cheers Glen.

Dear Mr Berment-McDowald,
Thanks for your email.
I am in Rome at present attending an International Benedictine Conference.
I am therefore not now in a position to attend to this matter.
Please direct the contents of this email to our Prior, Fr Odo van der Heijdt.
As Prior, he has the full responsibility of the monastery in the absence of the abbot.
Fr Odo does not have access to email communication.
Kindly therefore direct the contents of this email to him personally at the Mount.
Please note that he is due for surgery on Thursday 26 September 2013, so you should try to deliver a hard copy of this email to him on Tuesday 24 or Wednesday 25 September.
If he is unable to deal with this before his surgery, he will delegate this matter to a monk of his choice.
Yours in Christ,
Abbot John Pereira, OSB

Well done, Salvador.
Now, you see why i call you "The Ambassador" . . . .
You've done a fine job and it seems that Dennis was happy to hear from you.
When you see him, you might want to mention some of these names, to elicit some sort of reaction from him and to collect memories:

Hello Nigel.
Well, I found Mr. Dennis duBoulay.
I spoke with his wife Edna this morning and introduced myself and left my cell number for Mr. Dennis to call me if he didn't mind.
I told his wife I was an old Abbey Boy from Mount Saint Benedict and we talked a little bit.
Later this afternoon, Mr. Dennis called me and we talked a little bit to kinda break the ice.
It just so happened that as we talked I mentioned some of the old boys, and Stanley and Peter Ferguson are his cousins, so we started on the right foot and now I will arrange a reunion with then, and will try to get his live history.
He told me that his brother Arthur has died a while back and was older than him. Dennis is now 78 years old.
I will bring the photos from the reunion in Ajax since there were some guys from his time 1945 to 1950.
As soon as I make that reunion and take photos I will send them to you and Ladislao.
It is always a great pleasure to meet new old boys from the Abbey School, regardless of the era.
Go, go old boys.....best wishes. Salvador
PS:  He is a mechanical engineer and still working part time.

Thanks, Janice.
Arthur had been looking for Denis, and I felt that one of you Stodart girls would have the answer he was looking for.
Thanks for your kind help.
So, Carnival is over, or will be soon, and we're into Lent.
God bless you and yours.
Nigel
P.S. Where is Pat living now? I don't recognize her "Deacon" name.
