Dear Friends,
For those that are in the Miami area, I shall be there during the first or second week of February, maybe we can get together???
Shall advise further on.

NO-NOs AT THE MOUNT
By the way, I recall that some of the calypsos were "banned" by the monks as being too suggestive and vulgar.
The banning certainly ensured that we WOULD INDEED listen to the particular banned songs.
This is one of them ....SPARROW'S MR BENWOOD DICK
Compare this "humble, simple" song to what RAP music and its lyrics offer to young people around the world today
Mighty Sparrow - Mr Bendwood Dick

Dear Ladislao,
Once more I wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year with good health for you and your beloved ones.
Secondly, I would like to congratulate you for your perseverance related to your work-input with the MSB circulars which is not getting easier as time goes on as it is always harder to find valuable material.
I am sure that even nowadays there are many of us who enjoy these contacts with our old friends and our happy and not-so-happy bygone days.
I´ve had a “mixed-up year, as on the negative side I got a rare sickness called “Polymyalgia rheumatica” which is awfully painful and hard to identify and can only be treated with cortisone.
On the positive side, my two sons are doing very well in Budapest and the 5 grandchildren are in top shape. What else can one ask for in this day and age?
Attached I am sending you a picture of my dear wife Maricarmen and myself taken this summer at a wedding in Ciudad Rodrigo, Spain. As you can see we are also getting older just like the rest of the gang.
Best wishes and un abrazo
Csaba

Ladislao:
The attached along with $ 50.00 USD was sent to Gabe Faria on behalf of the memory of our Dear Friend, Moses Oderson.
Hope you are well my friend.
I do look forward to meeting you someday...Do you ever visit California, USA?
Regards, Krishna

We remember well the Open House at the Abbey School, Mount Saint, Benedict, in October of 1973 when the house, filled will parents, friends, siblings, priests, and a full compliment of day-boys and boarders assembled in the refectory for a celebration of academic and athletic achievements.
Awards were given out for stellar performances in Math, Science, Literature, History, Religion, and for swimming, football, cricket and athletic performances.
A side bar of that event included a program of entertainment produced by the Abbey schoolboys under the tutelage of Professor Llewellyn McIntosh.
That date and moment stand out for one reason alone.
It is a moment, that all in attendance will forever recall...the emergence of Moses Oderson as a musical talent of enormous potential.
On that occasion, he announced his arrival to SUPER STARDOM on the Mount Saint Benedict.
Feisal Khan, Stuart Petit, Zephryn Robinson and I, intimates of Moses already knew of his wondrous abilities.
Moses could tell a story with wonderful embellishment...
He could share a spicy joke to make the most stoic blush, and he could SING.
On that night at the Abbey there were usual sophomoric skits and plays; puppet shows, and lame comedic routines...And then there was Moses Oderson. Simon and Garfunkel at the height of their careers could not have expected MOSES' slow build of their most famous ballad:
"Bridge Over Troubled Waters," into a crescendo that demanded and drew a STANDING OVATION from all in attendance on the Mount...
What a moment for Moses, What a moment for Mackie's production, What a moment for the Abbey School, Mount Saint Benedict.
The audience demanded MORE. MORE, MORE...Behind the drawn stage curtain Mackie drew Moses and his friends together....Zephryn suggested Moses sing "BEN."
We, his friends since 1971 had heard it before and knew well that it would work...
Mackie reintroduced MOSES again...for a solo to a maddening, standing, overenthusiastic audience...and he delivered. Moses Oderson's rendition of "BEN", a Michael Jackson hit, blew the roof off the mother.......refectory...lights out a magnificent moment in the 100 years on the Mount.
It is a memory, those of us privileged to experience, will remember to our last day on earth.
Sadly, Moses passed too soon...
He is gone now from this life, but those of us who were honored to be his friend and colleague, will remember him forever.
He enriched our lives by sharing his prodigious talents.
He enriched, too, the Abbey School, its history, and lifted all of the souls gathered on that magical night in October, 1973 on the Mount Saint Benedict.

Hello Glen and Nigel,
Do me a favour, please. I am trying to add my school mates to my Skype contacts.
Please pass on to your mailing group my Skype name: idmitch_ell
I look forward to hearing from anyone who agrees to join me as a contact, particularly the 1955-1963 generation.
I wonder if anyone remembers the name of the House that those of us who hated scouting and sports created for our own use?
Keep well.
Don

Hello, Dennis,
From looking at the Articles and Certificate, I can see that Trinidad adopted Professor Carnegie’s draft model Companies Act. We did so in 1994 in Anguilla, so the format is familiar.
Over the years, before I retired in 1999, I formed several not-for-profit companies with By-laws involving different classes of members. I have asked a couple of friends to let me have one or two precedents. But, I am sure you have many suitable precedents of your own for the present members to adopt? We need to adopt By-laws, recruit members, and start collecting some dues to cover miscellaneous minor costs – like the annual registration fees.

Hi Nigel;
I refer to the recent e-mail correspondence relating to the membership and structure of the ASAA ending with your e-mail of the 17th ultimo to Joe B-McD.
I am pleased to forward herewith attached -
· Certificate of Incorporation, Articles of Incorporation of a Non-Profit Company (with two schedules attached), Notice of Directors and Notice of Address
· Last Annual Return
· Minutes of Meeting held 21.5.12
· Notice of Change of Secretary and Notice of Change of Directors
The originals of these documents (except for the Minutes) are open to the public and may be inspected at the Companies Registry. The documents at the Companies Registry show ASAA as a legal person (a non-profit company) with an identity separate and apart from its members. I have no objection to the circulation of these documents to the past students of The Abbey School for their information. I would be grateful if you or Ladislao or Don would oblige. For your information, under our Companies Act, the first directors of ASAA automatically become its first members, thereafter other persons may be appointed by the directors to be members. Members should note however that they have a potential liability for the debts (if any) of the Association, up to a maximum of TT$100.00 on a winding up.
Except for the recent flurry of activity surrounding the centenary celebration of the Monastery, ASAA has not been very active as a cohesive organisation in promoting camaraderie amongst the former students of The Abbey School. Certain efforts in that regard have however been initiated and promoted by individuals independent of ASAA. Indeed the founding members/directors have not yet made by-laws to determine inter alia the types of members (classes of membership) and whether there should be an entrance fee and/or annual subscription (even if nominal) or whether membership should be automatic by reason of being a former student of The Abbey School…and such other matters relating generally to the conduct of the affairs of ASAA as may be thought fit.
So many of the “old boys” are overseas (in many different countries) and a way should be found to involve them as part of ASAA if it is to thrive and the objects achieved.
I enjoy reading the circulars distributed by Ladislao and the exchange of e-mail correspondence copied to me, but unfortunately I have a very demanding full time job and would be pleased if my involvement and responsibility would be limited to the formal filings of ASAA documents at the Companies Registry. Certainly I do not look upon ASAA as if it belongs to an small select number of past students and I (personally) would welcome the involvement of a greater number of persons.
Particularly in these early stages transparency and communication are critical in building the confidence of the old boys, but there must be a common purpose and involvement. Unfortunately my time is limited. Now that the centenary celebrations are over, where do we go from here? ASAA would welcome some ideas, but please, none that take up too much of my time!
Query, should ASAA ask the Secretary if he can afford the time to take on a bit more responsibility and to be a bit more proactive (e.g. to receive applications for membership, convene meetings of the Association, keep a Register of Members, a Minute book, the Corporate documents and any other registers and accounts). If he agrees we should pay him a monthly stipend. That commitment, if agreed, would however need to be funded.
A penny for your thoughts, if you have the time to share them with us.
Regards,
Dennis.

Hi George,
No planning has been done.
I have promised, when my tour of duty with the Court of Appeal is up in September, to go down to Trinidad and visit with some of the conference and event organisers there.
We will work out a time, a venue and a costing, and then we shall see who will come and who will not.
In my view it is pointless to get a commitment until then.
Keep well.

Perhaps Ladislao could post this thread in an upcoming Circular to see if there is any significant reaction to George’s latest suggestion.
If there is little or no reaction, then George will have a point.

Subject: LET'S STOP WASTING OUR TIME
Hi Guys;
I recommend that we stop this effort so we do not waste any more time and, in Don’s case, also money.
These are my reasons:
* When I started this idea in November it was to offer some interesting possibilities with a number of different options; there were very few who showed positive interest.....offer something a little different
* I then followed up with my millionaire “free option”.....only 6 responded
* Ladislao has shared that this has been tried before with little to no success
* Glenn took over effort in December.....similar poor results
* From all communications, circulars, Facebook, participation/contributions in/to MSB 100th anniversary celebration, Ladislao’s visits to Trinidad, etc. that I have read in recent and past years......alumni interested in AB and MSB are a minority. The majority have continued on with their life with very little to no interest in their old, closed school. “We are deemed to live in a fantasy world of the past while others are living the reality of the present/future and do not much care about the past”.
* Cost........it will be significant especially for those who will have to fly to the location
* The great majority has been silent on this as they seem to have been in past opportunities......I accept and respect their personal decisions
* A last try to bring the majority together.....it did not work
An option that might work is to have global regional meetings where our alumni currently reside:
* Trinidad
* Venezuela
* Canada
* USA
* Guyana
* Other countries, islands with large alumni numbers
* Europe?, Southeast Asia?...Probably too few alumni there to hold these
* Hold these at different times in the year so those few who are willing to travel to other regions can plan to do so.
* These have worked relatively well before in Toronto, Trinidad and perhaps in Venezuela.
* Do this under the official auspices of the Association (AATT?) that resides in Trinidad...there is a lot of time to do it slowly and well if they support it
* If found acceptable, I would volunteer to organize the USA festivities.

Hello George, (back to square one)
There seem to be a few that were interested, but some wanted different places.
I think we could have a stronger turn out in Trinidad than before, if a dozen of us go down.
On a personal note is Ladislao or Nigel going? I would like to know.
Bandit and a couple others may not come down to Trinidad, and may have to count out who are not coming.
Well its a good idea to have some kind of price range of accommodations, that we can present to the group, and send it out to the alumni, to see who are interested. I am glad to read Don will be going down, maybe by then I may have some names of boys down there, that may be able to assist in arrangements.
We have to get a count, and that right now is about 6 or 7 including us. We had a lot of debate about the place and you took a survey, I don't know what your final count was?
Anyhow its a good time to research our options, I do think we need help from Trinidad, we will have to have a good turn out down there, for it to be a grand 70th. Anniversary.
Many boys in Trinidad have not attended any reunions over the years, they are on my list.
Great guys, but don't really have any contact with the Association? We have to work together.
Now I will leave that part up to Ladislao & Don, the rest we will continue to persue.
Thank you for sharing this email, will have more feedback, will talk to a few down there.
Cheers my brother,
Adios Glen.

Thanks, Don,
For going to T later this year to work on this. You are right, it will all boil down to $$$$$. My intent of keeping it visible is to encourage folks to lay aside $$$$$ early so that they have it when needed. Not sure how long the process will be for our Venezuelan brothers to go through if they need to exchange bolivares for dollars. Not counting the airfare which will vary drastically depending on origination, my general guess estimate is that for a 5-night stay in a nice hotel in POS it will probably be in the $2000-2500 USA dollars range per couple to include meals, internal transportation, entertainment and the cost of attending special festivities.....
Kind and warm regards, George
